Busan Yeongsanjae

Intangible cultural asset No. 9 - Busan Yeongsanjae Yeongsanjae is a celebration of Buddha's sermon on Vulture Peak Mountain, the Vulture Peak Assembly(靈山會相). It is the biggest one among the ceremonies for the dead in the Buddhism. Since the Silla Dynasty, it has been shaped by the basic ideas of the Buddhism. They say it is a traditional ritual reflecting the real worth of the Buddhist culture. Tongdosa and Beomeosa Temple have played a major role to preserve this ceremony. It has a unique origin, composition, and process. Simple and artless regionality can be another feature. At present, an organization for Busan Yeongsanjae Conservation is trying to preserve and pass it down.
